Learning a second or even a third language, one of which is an Asian languge, isn't just helpful in a changing world economy, it has added benefits in terms of developing mental skills. Most people think that the Asian languages are beyond their ability because they contain a character set with which they are unfamiliar, but this is a personal roadblock you should begin actively removing from your path. They aren't that difficult or involved and learning these languages can sharpen your ability to think and to maintain your memory skills. Devoting an hour or two a day, using many of the software or podcast programs currently available, will prove an eye-opening experience. The sentence structure of these languages helps you begin to change your perception of the world. Sounds like it can't happen, I know, but you will begin to understand once you start studying. A few words contain an enormous amount of content and in a world where things have to be done quickly, it's economy of language that makes it happen in communication. Where do you begin? This way, you get a chance to listen to native speakers and gradually become introduced to words and phrases that are immediately useful.
