STUDY SKILLS
Everyone can use a bit of sharpening up in the brain department now and then, can’t they? How you do it doesn’t have to mean hitting the books for hours on end, listening to people flipping through dog-eared and yellow note sheets. It can be fun, interesting and beneficial all at the same time. With that thought in mind, we’ve sought out some sites that you might find helpful. There is also a new hot debate with which people need to become knowledgeable and that is the new change toward “cognitive enhancement” aka memory/energy medications formerly used for both ADHD and sleep disorders or for serious anergia in the elderly or disabled. The meds, of course, include Adderall, Ritalin, modafinil and Provigil. We’ve included just a few articles on this new area of discussion.
At the bottom of this page you’ll find free university courses.

Get involved in a really interesting program for laptops; Stanford’s earthquake program (Quake Catcher). Download a program, fire up your laptop and start sending data.
Anyone who writes papers, does research or searching for articles on the internet will LOVE this free piece of software that has more features in it than I can explain here. So, don’t worry because they have two free tutorials on their website which will explain just how many incredible features they have packed into this software. The software, which is still including new features, is called Qiqqu and you can get a free copy by just clicking on the hyperlink in the name here. Only one thing to remember is that it’s only available for use on Windows for now and it only handles PDF files, but that is a great help. They allow you to tag articles, put the full title into your database without having to type it, look for duplicates, provide a listing of articles that have similar content or which mention an article on which you’re currently working. As I said, too many great features to mention here. Get it and love it.
Who wouldn’t want FREE apps, software and lots of new learning materials for kids and students? Well, here it is: New Free Learning Materials. Of course, don’t forget to check out the free, on-line classes for adults and college students on Coursera.org, which was founded by two profs from Stanford. It has great courses in a wide variety of subjects. They are only one of the new websites dedicated to MOOCs (Massive Open On-line Courses) that you can find by just doing a simple Google search for MOOC courses. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you find.
